Remember that scripted speech is written to sound ‘genuine’ and not too scripted. Therefore it:

  • May be more standard than spontaneous speech, but won’t be excessively formal
  • Is likely to use some kind of address to the audience – perhaps direct (second person pronouns: you/your) or inclusive (first person plural pronouns: we/us/our)
  • Will use contractions
  • Will avoid over-long and complicated sentences, although this does not mean it will only use...
