This ten-lesson scheme introduces students to the requirements of the second part of this paper. The Sample Assessment Materials have been taken as a guide for this scheme, with new tasks created along the same lines to allow for additional practice while preserving the SAMs for use as a mock examination. A student-friendly mark scheme for students to use in peer- and self- assessment is also provided.

Introduction to the Assessment

The examination requires students to produce two transactional or persuasive pieces of writing. The mark scheme emphasises the importance of meeting audience and purpose needs in this kind of writing. There is no choice of questions; students will complete both tasks provided.

The following assessment objectives are tested in this section of this paper:

  • AO5: Communicate clearly, effectively, and imaginatively, selecting and adapting tone, style and register for different forms, purposes and audiences
  • AO5: Organise information and ideas, using structural and grammatical features to support coherence and cohesion of texts
